The 20th Educational & Biennial Conference of the Ghana Co-Operative Credit Unions Association (CUA) was climaxed with an awards night on April 27, 2018. Undoubtedly, effort of the various unions were recognized. Based on the various nominations and awards received, we present to you the four leading Credit Unions in Ghana.
1.Hydro Co-operative Credit Union, Akosombo.
Located in Akosombo, Hydro won three awards out of five nominations including the most coveted – “Overall Best CEO” of the year by their CEO, Mr. Joseph Gartsi. The criteria for the award were consistency and timeliness in submitting reports; mentored and groomed other managers; among others. Hydro credit union has over the years been noted for the provision of quality, innovative and lifelong financial solution to its valuable members.
2.University of Ghana Co-operative Credit Union, Legon.Over the years, University of Ghana Credit Union stands out as the most viable credit union in the country. The union had two nominations which they won; “The Best Credit Union”, and the “Credit Union with the Highest Viability Status” for the year 2016/2017 at the conference.
3. Abosomankotere Co-operative Credit Union, Techiman.
This union had four nominations at the conference. Won the “Highest Increase in Membership & Corresponding Payment of Dues in Full” award out of the four nominations. The union is known for its large membership size and tremendous progress in assets during subsequent financial years. Currently operating in three other regions in addition to its head office in Techiman.
4. SHAccu Co-operative Credit Union, Shama. SHAccu has the largest member size among the Credit Unions in the country. Won the award of “The Most Viable Youth Savings Club” for the year 2016/2017 out of the two nominations they had for the conference. SHAccu serves its membership from five full-service branch locations in the Western and Central Regions.
